GEL is currently delivering an education programme suitable for all ages from Primary School to University. Interactive sessions from Key Stage 2 to Degree Level are being offered to local schools giving children and students the opportunity to better understand the generation of heat from the earth and how we can utilise this heat to produce clean, reliable and renewable energy.
Our site office is able to accommodate groups of up to 40 students for site visits and lectures. We offer the opportunity for groups to come and see a presentation, watch an animation and complete bespoke worksheets, as well as a chance for the students to look at the site from the viewing platform.
GELs STEM ambassadors are involved with the Cornwall Education Business Partnership STEM Discovery Days as organised by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Enterprise Adviser Network. We have attended events at Pool Academy, Camborne Science and International Academy, Penryn Academy and Penair School.
As part of the STEM ambassador programme we will be providing outreach to inspire students to become involved with science related subjects. Some of this outreach has included the delivery of Raspberry Shake 'hubs' for secondary schools local to the site. We have delivered these hubs along with Dr Iain Stewart from the University of Plymouth, these hubs look at seimicity around the world and focus on whats happening in Cornwall. GEL have provided these schools with their own Raspberry Shake, therefore creating a local network that students can use to monitor movements in Cornwall and around the world.

Summer Internships 2019
GEL offered three internships for summer 2019, all relating to the United Downs Deep Geothermal Power project. The internships were based on drilling, geophysics and geology. The placements were based at both the United Downs site and an office in Falmouth. The internships have now been successfully completed. Review this page regularly for future opportunities.
